The Lort Smith Pets In Need Fund was established in response to an identified need of clients who are doing it tough and cannot afford treatment for their beloved pet. Even with our discounts and payment-plan options, the cost of veterinary care was simply still out of their reach.
These clients are responsible pet carers who have done the very best for their pets, but they may have experienced a crisis that has tipped them over the edge financially and so they cannot afford the treatment their pet requires. As a result some clients consider surrendering their pet – which is why the Pets In Need Fund is so critical, as it ensures we can keep carers and their much-loved pet together.
Pets In Need is funded entirely by donors. Over the past five years, we have been able to approve 105 applications and cover close to $170,000 in medical bills. These treatments ensured that families and their pets were supported with the best outcome possible. This was only made possible because of the generosity of our donors.
The criteria to access the fund is stringent and capped.
