1. Seek veterinary treatment immediately
  2. Place ferret in a well ventilated room
  3. Avoid stressing it

WHAT IS IT?

Can be life threatening if struggling to breathe.

CLINICAL SIGNS

  • Open mouth breathing
  • Increased respiratory rate and effort
  • Lethargic
  • Nasal or ocular discharge
  • Sneezing
  • Coughing

CAUSES

  • Respiratory infection, heart disease, pneumonia, heat stress, foreign body

TREATMENT

  • Oxygen therapy
  • Antibiotics
  • Fluid therapy
  • Removal of foreign body
  • Radiographs may be required
