Donations for homeless pet owners needed 01/03/2016

We’re looking for donations of cat and dog food (both wet and dry food), leads, collars, treats and toys to distribute to homeless pet owners at the Where the Heart Is homeless festival.

If you’d like to donate items, simply label the donations with Where the Heart Is and leave the donation in the tub in the entrance to Lort Smith reception at 24 Villiers St in North Melbourne.

All donations need to be received by Friday March 11.

A big thank you to Hill's Pet Nutrition who have already offered to donated a large amount of cat and dog food for us to distribute on the day. This donation is on top of the already huge amount of food they have donate to feed our shelter animals each year.

As well as distributing the donated items, our staff also will be providing vet checks, vaccinations, microchipping, worming and flea treatment to pets belonging to the homeless on the day. We can also provide training tips and general advice about responsible pet ownership.

The Where the Heart Is festival is run by the Royal District Nursing Service Homeless Persons Program and provides a variety of services for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
