PLEASE GIVE AS GENEROUSLY AS YOU CAN TO OUR MARCH APPEAL
Without people like you, animals like Widget wouldn’t get the care and second chance they deserve.
Behind our Animal Hospital, Adoption Centre and Community Outreach Programs are hundreds of people like you who support Lort Smith in a number of different ways. Without your support we simply would not be in the position to continue caring for the thousands of animals who need our help each year.
Anna, who at 12-years-old is one of Lort Smith’s youngest supporters. She wrote us a letter explaining why she donates to Lort Smith.
My brother and I got our kitten, Widget, from Lort Smith in January 2017. She was abandoned at 4 months of age weighing only 400 grams, emaciated and riddled with fleas. Lyn from the Lort Smith cattery fostered her and nurtured her back to health so that she was ready for a loving home.
When my parents took my brother and I to visit Lort Smith, Lyn introduced us to Widget and we would not let our parents go home without adopting her. She is now a healthy and cheeky “naughty tortie” who sleeps on our beds at night and keeps my mum company when my brother and I are at school. We feel very lucky to have found her.
When Lyn gave me a tour of Lort Smith, I realised the great work they do in providing medical treatment and re-homing abandoned animals. I was inspired to hold an art exhibition to raise funds and I raised over $600 which went toward the cost of building a new animal adoption shelter. I spoke at my school assembly about this project.
I also called ABC 774 and spoke to Claire Bowditch on talk back radio about our experience in adopting widget from Lort Smith. Around this time, I coincidentally discovered that my great grandfather had been a vet who had worked for Lort Smith when he came to Australia from Poland after the second world war!
When it came to celebrating my recent Bat Mitzvah, I decided to ask guests to make a donation to Lort Smith in lieu of presents and this way, I was able to raise further funds.
If it was not for the great people and work of Lort Smith, Widget, and thousands of other abandoned pets like her, would not have had the medical care they needed or found a loving home. I would ask people to consider supporting Lort Smith in any way they can.
