Lort Smith Gala Dinner 2007

Our first ever Gala Dinner promised to be a grand event in Lort Smith’s history and it didn’t disappoint.  Hosted by Gold Medallist, Media personality and Lort Smith Ambassador, Giaan Rooney and with the tone set by co-host and talented MC Hamish McLachlan, the evening proved to be an exceptional one.

The location was perfect.  Zinc at Fed Square on a beautiful spring evening with views overlooking the Yarra River and breathtaking views of the cityscape, a trio of musicians welcomed the 300 guests to a champagne and canapé reception that spilled out onto the waterfront decking and into the warm evening.
After time to enjoy a few glasses and the chance to mix and meet, our guests filtered through the tulle drapes into the stunning dining area to be seated at tables lit by magnificent candelabra and enjoy an evening of entertainment, good food and great company and the chance to show some of their best moves on the dance floor.
The fun didn’t stop on the dance floor though, with a beautiful Kosminsky necklace going to the lucky purchaser of the glass of champagne with the winning ticket attached and silent auction items that ranged from a day on the set of The Saddle Club, to a day cruising on a private yacht, to tickets to the Boxing Day Test - all on offer to the lucky highest bidder. Guests even got to “adopt” their very own loveable toy puppy or kitten at their table, with each adoption donation going towards helping a very real dog or cat being cared for in our shelter.
At the end of the evening we made sure our guests didn’t just go home with the satisfaction of having had a great time but also with the knowledge that they had achieved great things too.  Over $50,000 was raised, going directly to supporting the essential work the hospital does in caring for the hundreds of thousands of lost, abandoned, mistreated, sick and injured animals each year,
